I am an expert in many technology domains including scalable web and big data, REST APIs, high scale pub/sub, software platform architectures, low-level networking & protocols, VoIP/SIP, continuous integration development/deployment platforms, data center operations, OSGi & modular deployment platforms, and web security. I am experienced in Java, C++, C, C#, PHP5, and Python in production code - so understand both the big picture of architecture as well as the detail.

I can take large, complex problems, abstract them, break them down and categorise them based on the underlying problems, and create solutions to those problems or complexities that are simple to implement & understand.

I have been active in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), and am an author of RFC 6026, as well as a number of drafts related to SIP, including Addressing an Amplification Vulnerability in SIP. I have also been involved as an editor of the SIPForum SIPConnect 1.1 specification. I have deep knowledge of SIP as a protocol, and worked extensively on complex SIP deployments as well as implementations for ITSPs, carriers, and applications as well as author of 3 different SIP/RTP stacks, a PBX, SBC and 2 SIP User-Agents. I am an inventor on 4 pending patents in the areas of telecommunications, network monitoring, and highly scalable distributed graph storage.

I have a keen personal interest in psychology - particularly transactional analysis, non-verbal communication, and neuro-linguistic programming.

I thrive in fast paced unstructured environments, especially startups and early stage businesses with a culture of innovation and outside-the-box thinking.

Prior to the Microsoft acquisition of Skype, I was an internet hippie working with Skype, as a software architect & developer in a very small team on a clean room implementation of Skype, and I moved on inside the company after this project completed to the newly founded the Core Web Services team - working on architecture and prototyping for scalable web APIs, protocol implementations, an awesome multi-site graph data storage platform, highly scalable realtime subscription/notifications service, chat services on Skype scale, and modular and loosely coupled development and deployment platforms for cross team continuous deployment, and mobile optimization and architecture.

I was also in this cool video.

Before that, I was CTO at VoIP.co.uk, a large UK VoIP service provider which was unique in that the entire service ran using a highly scalable, standards compliant, and feature rich SIP platform I architected and developed. This platform was branched off into another company, SipWorks (which I was also involved in), which provided SIP SBCs, proxies, registrars and feature services to both SMEs, carriers, and large ITSPs. My responsibilities as CTO included creating technical direction, vision, and the strategy while working with the executive team, investors, and evangelizing to key employees - as well as hiring, architecture, and working directly with customers to gain understanding of their needs.

I am interested in talking about new opportunities. Contact me by email or Skype.
